Latino Cultural Health offers training in cultural competence in health care and an overview of the Affordable Care Act §1557, which details required use of interpreters for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients. 

Cultural Competence training affords practitioners the opportunity to examine inherent bias and how it can affect effective communication between provider and patient. Along with improved language access, practitioners will gain the tools to improve health disparities in minority and LEP populations.

This training also provides Important information on updates to the  Affordable Care Act §1557.  The final rule, adopted in 2016, sets forth new guidance on who can interpret in the medical setting, what constitutes a "qualified" interpreter, and how to determine which foreign languages must be available to patients. Patient complaint procedures with HHS Office of Civil Rights will be covered, as well as the private right of action available under this law.
